Matthew workshopped his feature screenplay EL PERRO at the Sundance Collective Kitchen in and his TV pilot THE BISLEY BOY won the SXSW Film Festival Episodic Pitch-a-thon. His short film OVERNIGHT premiered at the LA Shorts International Film Festival, won best student film at the Flyway Film Festival, and the script was a semi-finalist for the Austin Film Festival Script Competition. His next short film THIS WILD ABYSS, about the research and friendship of astronomers Milt Humason and Edwin Hubble, won a Sloan Foundation grant is currently in post-production.
As a playwright, his plays HOME, SWEET and INSIDE THE HAND were a finalist and semifinalist, respectively, for the National Playwrights Conference at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center. As a stage actor he's worked with four different directors whose work have won Tony Awards, at theaters that include The Public Theater and Shakespeare in the Park in New York City, the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles, and the Shakespeare Theatre of DC.
Carlson graduated with a BS from Northwestern University and an MFA from New York University.
